Gatorade is an American manufacturer of sports-themed beverages and foods, based on its signature line of sports drinks. The product is currently manufactured by PepsiCo and sold in more than 80 countries and territories. The beverage was first developed in 1965. It was originally designed to replace the carbohydrates burned by school athletes and the mixture of water and electrolytes lost through sweat during rigorous physical activity. Gatorade has always been a subject of media attention and reference in popular culture, most of it related to team or individual competitive sports.
